Holidays for two in Brittany gites - open all year for winter breaks - near La Roche Bernard.

Brittany holidays start here: we have three gites open all the year round for holidays to immerse yourself in traditional rural Brittany. Each cottage is private and self-contained, and each has its own private garden where you can relax, barbecue and eat, sunbathe. All three gites have their own private parking, and log-burning stoves for winter warmth. People have enjoyed walking, painting, bird-watching, golf, reading, dining out and cooking, cycling, or going to the beach.

Hibiscus Cottage

Stay chez nous:we have been letting the 'House' and the 'Barn' for nearly ten years, and more recently 'Hibiscus Cottage'. From time to time we live in them all to be sure that everything is working, that each is well-equipped and comfortable. Somebody is always on hand close by if needed.

La Ruelmain is a tiny hamlet in the south of Brittany, on the southern bank of the Vilaine river, half way between La Roche Bernard and Redon.

It lies on a slight rise where historic water meadows (marais) meet the woodland and farms of the commune of St Dolay, and has stunning views to the wide skies and ever changing colours of the river valley.

The ancient stone houses date from the 17th century, with the typical features of Brittany cottages - thick walls (3 ft), few windows, and shutters - designed for this climate of hot summers and stormy winters. Twenty years ago many of the buildings were run down or derelict, but gradually they are being bought and restored and now la Ruelmain is a lived-in and welcoming place.
