Bergerac (famed for Cyrano de Bergerac) is an interesting town sitting prettily on the banks of the Dordogne. An important river port until the mid-1800s, Bergerac retains much of its charm, and is a great place to explore, with its medieval buildings and slightly quirky museums. Bergerac also offers great opportunities for investigating the surrounding area, which is peppered with vineyards and castles.
