This is the canalised Blavet River which runs into Lorient. Since the building of Lac Guerledan it has become more important being the only way to the sea from the Nantes-Brest Canal (north of Redon, that is). Many canal pleasure boats make the round trip Redon-Lorient as a result. Its junction with the nantes-Brest Canal is at Pontivy - formerly known as Napoleonville where it makes an elegant waterfront. Pontivy's old name gives the game away of course - .the Blavet Canal was part of the Napoleonic scheme for Brittany's canals, but completed before the Nantes - Brest Canal in 1825 The canal consists of the following:-
