Bougogne is most notable for its wine (Burgundy, Beaujolais and so on). It is south of Paris, on the way south to Lyons and Provence. The région of Bourgogne is made up of the following old provinces:- the old Duchy of Burgundy: (Côte-d'Or , Saône-et-Loire , and southern half of Yonne). the Nivernais (Nièvre department) and the northen half of Yonne.. Bourgogne contains the following departements (the chief town of each department - the prefecture) is shown in brackets:-
