Built piecemeal from the seventeenth century onwards until the 20th. It fell into disuse in 1954, but taking courage and information from the rescuers of the Basingstoke Canal in England, "le Syndicat mixte de gestion du Canal d’Orléans " has transformed the canal for pleasure traffic.

Orleans to the Briare - 76.13 kms.

Total length of the canal is 76.13 kms.
