Poitiers is a town with historical connections: Eleanor d'Aquitaine lived here, while Richard the Lion Heart, Joan of Arc and Descartes were just some of its other visitors. Poitiers has heaps of gorgeous churches and old townhouses, and there are a couple of museums to investigate, but the real pleasure is to walk the medieval streets and to soak up the lively student atmosphere.
