Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) covers an area of 31,400 km² , and contains the departments Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Hautes-Alpes, Var and Vaucluse. It is made up of:
Notable cities and places in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur include: Aix-en-Provence, Antibes, Arles, Avignon, Les Baux de Provenc, Cannes, Cassi, Digne-les-Bains, Grasse , Juan-les-Pins , Marseille, Nice, Saint-Raphaël, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Saint-Tropez. Reminders of Roman influence abound. Provence was the Roman Provincia; Frejus was Forum Julius and so on. Nimes has a Roman temple and amphitheatre today used for bull fighting. The region is home to very many wines and to very many foreigners (German, Dutch, English) who have maisons secondaires (=second homes) there. The population is 7.55% of France's total, on 5.71% of its area. |
