The Barn

The original stonework and timbers of the Barn have been preserved in an ingenious restoration, and although it has been thatched in the past, the roof is back in its traditional slates, matching the rest of the hamlet.

It is a lovely hideaway for two people (but if you are over six foot beware-some of the beams are quite low and it might not suit you).

The fully-equipped kitchen and the shower room, with the bedroom on an open gallery above, occupy half the floor space of the Barn; the remainder is open to the rafters. Go up a couple of steps and through a glass door from the sitting area to get to the main delight of the cottage, a sunny, south-facing breakfast room which opens onto the vine-covered patio through which you get to the Barn's own small garden. . . a real suntrap.

The living-room has a tiled floor, wood-burning stove, dining table and chairs, easy chair, settee, bookshelves and a dresser. The gallery bedroom has a 5ft double bed that can be reorganised as two singles, hanging space and a chest-of-drawers. The bathroom has shower, WC, and small handbasin

During the day you can doze in the dappled shade of the patio and look out to the small enclosed garden, and in the evenings it is an excellent rendezvous for candle-lit meals, barbecues, and celebrations
